15TH APRIL 2025
ATTENDEES: Full members 34 Dual 1 Visitors 1
Jill Webber (JW) (President) opened the meeting by welcoming all members and visitors, including our speaker for the evening, Liz Smith who is our WI advisor.
Liz gave a very informative talk, enlightening us regarding the history of WI campaigning, reminding us all about the ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ campaign launched in 1954. She also brought along some interesting artefacts belonging to the WI. We then looked at how to access the learning hub for those who hadn’t yet done so.
Before we took our break for coffee JW asked the group to take a vote on the resolution Bystanders can be life savers, which the group voted for unanimously to be taken by the nominated delegate to the June AGM held at the Mowlem. The other vote was for adopting the budget/expenditure for 2025/26 for DFWI, again this was agreed. Joanna Murphy and Sue Pride were the tellers for counting the votes. Finally, before stopping for coffee the Sewing group were very proud to present the new Purbeck WI banner. Jenny Frankland’s winning design. This was very well received by a lovely round of applause. The sewing group had also been busy knitting chicks which were filled with a cream egg and put on every member’s chair, to wish them a happy Easter.
It was lovely to hear the buzz of all you lovely ladies chatting busily around the activities table. There is certainly lots being arranged from our much-appreciated social committee. The book and jigsaw table always proves a winner, and the raffles did very well this month. Refreshments remain free for the foreseeable future, due to our financial stability, and a way of giving back to the group for their continued generosity. Thank you to Anne Sewell and Maureen Brocklebank, serving the refreshments, very organised in the kitchen.
JW called the group back for a short meeting. Thanking everyone for their help and support for the Spring Fayre held on the 12th April which raised a staggering £591.60, thanking Anne Morris and her social team for all the hard work in making this happen. JW reminded the group about the Jazz and Pimms concert on 11th May and mentioned there were only 9 tickets remaining. JW informed the group that the next meeting is the AGM on 20th May, followed by a quiz.
JW brought the meeting to a close at 9.10 pm wishing everyone a Happy Easter and safe journey home.

Anne Morris kindly stepped in as President for Jill Webber in her absence. Opening the meeting welcoming members, new members, visitors and our speaker for the evening Fran Ciardini.
This talk was of a sensitive nature as Fran works for the Coroner’s service, based at Holly Tree Lodge, Boscombe. Fran is the mortuary manager, and informed the group that a team of four people carry out approx.1500 post mortems each year, for sudden and unexplained deaths, murder investigations etc. Her talk was delivered with such compassion, which meant this information was received without becoming upset. There were many questions from the group welcomed by Fran as she went along. I believe we all felt more assured if anyone of our loved ones had to have a post mortem, they certainly would be treated with the utmost of care, respect and dignity.
Fran is a good advocate of ‘there is life after children’. Attending University after her children had grown up and attaining a Masters degree. Jackie Fuggle gave the vote of thanks. Lots of people went up to Fran to ask questions during coffee time.
The usual books and raffle were well participated and Anne Fraser one the Ready steady cook raffle.
As it is international women’s day on 8th March a number of the group took part in what they would say to their younger self. Photos were taken to be sent to DFWI.
Thanks to Pam, Jenny and Maureen for serving the refreshments.
Anne called the meeting back to inform the group of all the up-and-coming events we have planned for the coming months. Also informed the group of the price increase for the annual membership which is now £51 per annum and asked if this could be settled by 31st March.
Anne thanked everyone for coming and closed the meeting at 9.20 pm

Happy New Year! What a way to start 2025.
Jill opened the meeting welcoming all members and visitors and of course our speaker for the evening. We had a great talk from Doug Skinner from Planet Purbeck, covering several subjects, local and national, that was of great interest to us all. Giving us plenty of food for thought about our future. There were numerous questions for Doug after the talk, which he answered for the members.
As per normal for this group the buzz and business in the room was phenomenal. I just wish I could bottle it ! The books and jigsaw puzzles sold well this meeting as did the raffle. I think we all enjoyed the free refreshments. A big thanks to Sue, Jenny and Jane for serving and clearing the kitchen up afterwards. No mean feat now as the group is getting bigger by the month.
Lyn Coleman kindly addressed the group regarding the forthcoming voting for the 4 resolutions for 2025. Also mentioning the NFWI AGM by Zoom being held at the Mowlem theatre. Tickets will be on sale for £5 each.
Jill informed the members she had received numerous compliments regarding how friendly and inclusive this group is especially for newcomers who have come on their own, they have all felt welcomed. Jill expressed she hopes that this ethos remains as the club grows bigger. The next coffee and chat (C & C) meeting on 12th February at the 1859 restaurant on the pier and for people to respond to the pole on the WhatsApp C&C.
Jackie asked if there were any members who have an interest in social media and have good IT, if they would be interested in helping keep the website etc up to date. Sadly, no takers at this point.
Sue informed the group if anyone was struggling with lifts to the meeting and events to always get in contact either on the C & C WhatsApp or email and we will ensure no one will miss out.
Jackie was the lucky winner of the Ready Steady Cook raffle, watch this space as to what will be created.

Well, what can I say the last meeting of 2024 went off with a bang!
Our best attendance to date. Held in a temporary hall ( All Saints Church hall, Swanage) which served us well.
Thanks to Sue Lewis for sharing her ribbon wreath making and other beautiful decorations made from things found in the countryside etc.
The mince pie competition was a success. Traditional pie was won by Sue Pride with Sue Verge coming second. Alternative mince pie was won by Jackie Fuggle. Shop bought was won by Sue Pothecary. A huge thanks to Lyn Coleman for judging this competition. May it be the first of many ladies.
The Xmas raffle was amazing there were 3 large hampers with various smaller prizes and of course the wheelbarrow of wine which was won by our lovely Vera McDonald. I did see the cavalry arrive at the end of the evening to help her get it home.
Lots of names were added to the list for our New Year Meal on January 15th at the Kings Arms Stoborough. Thanks to Jayne Griffin for sorting this one out.
We now have a team to enter for the Kurling competition in February, Jackie Fuggle, Sue Pride, Meg Mutter and Lyn Jones.
The next coffee and chat is on Thursday 9th January ‘25
Anne Morris stood in for Jill Webber our President, and what a grand job she did too. Informing the group that we had reached our predicted target of 51 members by December. This group is just growing from strength to strength long may it continue through 2025.

Another great evening enjoyed by all. Thanks to Patti Sandham who was our speaker for the evening and also a fellow PWI member (aren’t we lucky to have her!). We all learnt something new about bees by the time she had finished. Her products that she sold afterwards were very popular. Let’s hope she has a stall at the Spring Fair next year.
Thanks to Jane and Diana who served and cleared up after the refreshments.
Karen North won the Ready Steady Cook box of goodies, lets see what delights will be produced from this one. It included potatoes, carrots, red peppers, a mango and bananas. I can see some soups there and perhaps a Rosti. The normal raffle was also a success, along with the shrapnel boxes and Nicky’s book corner. Thanks to everyone who partakes in this. There were lots of donations for the food bank and various raffles.
Jill had a lot of announcements to make, I think she needs something a little louder than her bell to get everyone’s attention, you ladies are lovely and chatty!
The banner competition was won by Jenny Frankland, it was a stunner and there is a working party being arranged to bring this banner to fruition.
Jill expressed what a success the trip to Athelhampton house was on 9th November, enjoyed by all who went.
On 28th November we are on our visit to the RNLI Poole arrive at 12.00 for lunch first then tour afterwards. People were reminded that the parking at ASDA is only for 3 hours alternative parking should be found or take the bus or train to take the stress out of it.
A reminder was given regarding the next meeting which will be held at All Saints Church at New Swanage and not to forget there will be a mince pie competition that will be judged by Lyn Coleman.
The next Coffee and Chat is on 9th December at Putlake farm Langton Matravers, meet at 10.00 am.
Jill has encouraged members to organise their own subgroups and highlighted that the whiteboard with suggestions of groups should be followed up, especially where there are a number of people interested.

Well wat a great turnout for our second meeting at HCVH, despite the horrible weather. Jill (President) welcomed all members/new members and visitors and introduced our spea ker for the evening, Lorrain Puckett from the Winterbourne Hospital. Her presentation was very informative of all the different services that are available and how it has changed over the years since it was opened in 1982.
Lyn and Sue - dual members from Swanage WI kindly served the refreshments and Lyn made some delightful flapjacks.
There were 4 entries for the banner design competition with one clear winner,
Jenny Frankland. It was stunning artwork. This will be announced officially at the November meeting. We now have to call upon the clever needle workers within the PWI group to now produce this beautiful banner.
There was plenty going on with both raffles. Anne Sewell and Sue Pride were the winners of the Ready Steady Cook boxes. I just wish to remind all members that all the proceeds from this raffle are going to Lewis-Manning Charity. Can't wait to see what the ladies produce this month!
Jill called the room back fora short meeting. The group were informed of the sad passing of Ruth Champner, one of the WI members.

Our speakers for the evening were from Lewis-Manning charity shop Swanage.
Morgan McKay and Anne Morris (WI committee member) gave an overview of how much it takes to run Lewis —Manning per year, all by charitable donations. They informed us of all the local satellite day hospices currently available in the area and what services are provided there for clients.

The first of our charity raffle was launched at this meeting. The Ready Steady Cook challenge.
